The Living Arts Gallery invites the community to a special art show today through Sept. 27 at its Hawi gallery, 55-3435 Akoni Pule Hwy.
The dynamic show will feature large format artworks by some of the finest artists on Hawaii Island.
“We’ve gotten so many requests for larger pieces of art, usually from designers and homeowners seeking to furnish their luxury homes, that we decided to clear some space in the gallery and bring in some really large and dramatic pieces for this show, ” said gallery owner Mary Sky Schoolcraft. “We’ve drawn artists from all parts of the island except Ka’u, from Hilo, Puna, Hamakua coast, Kona, Waimea, and North Kohala. There is a breadth and depth to this show that reflects the talent and variety of art styles on this island. We’re showing textiles, fiber art, block prints, oil paintings, watercolors, photography and more.”
The “Style!” show features art by Bonnie Sol Hahn, Chris Lundy, Connie Firestone, Esther Szegedy, Ilmar Reinvald, John McCaskill, Julia Rooney, Karen Spachner, Marcia Ray, Mary Sky Schoolcraft, Susan O’Malley and Tim Pervinkler.
In addition to the artists represented by the gallery, new, large works will be displayed in printed textile by Marcia Ray, vivid and ethereal mixed media by Chris Lundy, and a 36-by-48-inch atmospheric landscape by Julia Rooney. Also fresh off the press are new block prints by John McCaskill, a five-foot-long painting of the Puu Kohalo heiau above Kawaihae by Bonnie Sol Hahn and a sizeable triptych photograph on canvas by Tim Pervinkler.
Connie Firestone’s paintings of the “Guardians” shine from their luminous 7-foot canvases, and Mary Sky’s landscapes fill 30-by-40-inch canvases with magical realism. Susan O’Malley’s fiber arts, new work by Esther Szegedy, brilliantly vivid color abstractions by Mark Tomczak, and watercolors by Ilmar Reinvald and Karen Spachner Goard round out the show to a delicious fullness.
A wide variety of media on display include oil, watercolor, mixed media, fiber, pastel, woodblock prints, and textile banners.
The Living Arts Gallery is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to a reception from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 13. For information, call 889-0739.
